Stuart Holiday Letter 2024
It was a busy year, filled with events and activities. The biggest event was our four-week summer trip with our R-Pod from Bend to spend time with our kids. Our route took us from our home in Bend through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, back through Wyoming and Utah, then on to Idaho and finally back to Oregon.
We camped in Utah, where Peter’s family and our granddaughter Alex joined us, and we then continued on with Peter’s family to Wyoming and the Black Hills of South Dakota.
We left the kids after a few days in Custer. They headed west and we continued on to Wisconsin for a few days with Karen and her family. Tim had the next week off, and we drove to Indiana and spent a few days there with his family. Our route home was slightly different from the way out, and much faster. We made it back to Bend in five days. Unlike our long trip in 2023, we didn’t have any breakdowns. Both dogs are good travelers, enjoy hiking and are good with children, so they had a great time.
Other than the trip, this year we survived a cyberattack with little cost, Charlie put up wire shelves in the R-Pod for storage, Peggy produced two quilts for grandkids and a new book for The Doll’s Storybook series.
We replaced or repaired some appliances that broke down. We camped in a nearby park in June. Peggy finally came down with Covid a few days after attending an event, but it was a mild case, and Charlie managed not to catch it.
Peter’s family came for Thanksgiving. We don’t host Christmas this year; it’s the other grandparents’ turn. We think Jim will join us, though.
We’re looking forward to more camping next year, and already have plans for a trip in April.
Best wishes for a great holiday season and a very happy new year!
